Washington, D.C. – The CardioVascular Coalition (CVC) today applauds the bipartisan reintroduction of H.R. 7863, the Promoting Fairness for Medicare Providers Act by Representatives Gus Bilirakis (R-FL-12), Raul Ruiz, M.D. (D-CA-25), Greg Murphy, M.D. (R-NC-3), and Danny Davis (D-IL-7). CVC strongly endorses this legislation and commends these leaders for their dedication to protecting patient access to high-quality, community-based cardiovascular care.
Millions of Medicare beneficiaries living with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), and other serious cardiovascular conditions rely on office-based physicians and ambulatory surgical centers for timely, cost-effective treatment. However, longstanding Medicare payment disparities between office-based and other care settings—particularly for procedures that require expensive medical supplies—have steadily eroded the financial sustainability of independent cardiovascular practices, threatening to further consolidate care into higher-cost hospital settings.
The Promoting Fairness for Medicare Providers Act would correct these inequities by modernizing Medicare reimbursement for certain high-supply-cost procedures across care settings. By restoring payment parity, this legislation helps ensure that community-based cardiovascular providers can continue to deliver the high-quality, affordable care their patients depend on—without forcing seniors to travel farther, wait longer, or bear higher out-of-pocket costs.
"The CardioVascular Coalition applauds Representatives Bilirakis, Ruiz, Murphy, and Davis for championing this bipartisan bill," said CVC spokesperson, Jason McKitrick. "Access to cardiovascular care in community-based settings saves lives and reduces unnecessary amputations and hospitalizations. The Promoting Fairness for Medicare Providers Act is an important step toward ensuring the Medicare program truly works for patients and the physicians who serve them."
